I love second-hand, vintage clothing. It feels like a treasure hunt. I found a few pieces yesterday that I love.

New projects
Finished this Beret from one of my favorite books, More Last-minute Knitted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson. It’s one of my go to pattern books for basic well written patterns.

The yarn I used for my beret was a gift from a friend who visited Iceland. I was thrilled to receive this beautiful skein of Lopi.
Another pattern I’m starting for the New Year is from Joelle Hoverson’s first book Last-minute Knitted Gifts. I’m using this Berocco Yarn, Folio. The superfine alpaca and rayon mix will give the Hourglass Sweater a nice drape.

The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy by Rachel Joyce
I finally finished this book, once I got into the story and I wasn’t distracted by other reads I was hooked. The story was a journey like the companion of this book The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry. I wish I had read them closer together because some of the meaning was lost in my memory. The book was about a lady who was in the process of dying and remembering her life. Each chapter a story of past or present as she confessed her truths. Absolving her sins and finding meaning along the way as she waited for Harold Fry. The ending had an interesting twist on reality. Definitely worth a read.
Christmas Knitting
I’ve been on a blogging vacation. I think I’m ready to get back on track. I have been busily knitting for Christmas. I used to make all my gifts. The last couple of years I’ve started that tradition back up again. I’m hoping it will give me some Christmas spirit. I’ve finished a couple of scarves and a cowl. I feel I have a lot of ideas but I’m going to run out of time. Some may need to be New Years gifts but no matter it’s still a gift from my heart. I found some beautiful patterns. I experimented with a few yarns so I’m having fun with it. I ended up designing a simple cowl pattern using the Star stitch, which I’m now obsessed with. I find as my knitting skills expand, if I don’t like a pattern I end up changing it to my liking. I fail a few times and start again but it makes the process interesting and more fulfilling in the end. Yarn is forgiving and I’m ok with ripping apart a project to start fresh. Here’s what I have so far:
How a Silly Movie Changed My Life and Inspired Me to Travel
Chris Hadfield
My husband and I were lucky enough to get tickets to see Chris Hadfield our Canadian Astronaut. He spoke of his life and experiences. It was truly inspiring and life affirming really. His simple philosophy is to always have a goal and work towards it everyday. Your goals may change but it keeps you moving forward. He showed us dreams can come true. He made me proud to be a Canadian.
