Time by Dawn Illsley
My soul is bleeding,
Hoping beyond help.
Time is ticking,
Loud and clear.
It’s getting late,
Too late to care.

Time by Dawn Illsley
My soul is bleeding,
Hoping beyond help.
Time is ticking,
Loud and clear.
It’s getting late,
Too late to care.
War
Life is bickering with death,
Impatiently death waits,
Reluctantly life has to go,
And death can’t wait.
Barely There
There’s a crowd inside my head,
It’s beyond capacity.
There’s no room for hope.
I’m empty of care.
I’m tired of smiling.
I’m barely there.
The Hum by Dawn Illsley
I want to be in a place busy with the hum of voices.
Voices confabulating, words I can’t decipher.
Not here in the quiet.
My brain is free to wander,
Free to play the broken record of thoughts.
Ruminating in a stew of self doubt and words left unsaid
Behind walls By Dawn Illsley
Rapacious eyes follow my lips.
Lips speaking words.
Words that torture and neglect.
Neglecting the subject,
torturing the truth.
The truth trapped behind walls grown thick with time.
Timed out by Dawn Illsley
Humming a tune my lips don’t recognize,
I wander around the house.
My autopilot is broken,
I keep crashing.
Everyone notices,
But nobody says anything,
Afraid to point out the obvious.
I’m absent,
I’ve bowed out,
Thrown in the towel,
Given in, timed out.

Beautiful.

New project from this seasons Taproot magazine.
I was quite taken with this book. It’s a supernatural story with a twist of magic. Starting in 1979 through to 2015. A mysterious house that traps its “guests”. Something lures them in and then they can’t leave. The storyline kept me reading, I wanted to scream No, don’t go through the gate! Highly recommended.
A district attorney “Lu” has to investigate the death of a woman who was beaten to death by a homeless man. This is a story about a family secret’s that come back to haunt them. This story flips back and forth between the main characters childhood and present day. There was just enough interest to keep me engaged in this book. I wouldn’t call it riveting, and it was somewhat predictable. I did like the parallel storyline. The main characters childhood story was more interesting than her present story. I would have liked to have learned more about her brother AJ’s life to understand his character a bit better, is was slightly underdeveloped. If anyone else has read this book, I’d love to hear what you thought.
