18th century fashion

The handcraft guild at Louisbourg creates beautiful things.  This 18th century ladies pocket I purchased today at The Fortress gift shop.  They make great yarn bags.  I like the idea of having a pocket to tie on.  I probably could make it steampunkish.  Well I could try…

Louisbourg Day Four

Happy Birthday to me!!!  I had a great day.  I volunteered in collections this morning then went exploring around The Fortress.  I found another piece of the puzzle.  Look at what they have to work with, it’s very intriguing.

Hmmmm….

Wore a few sparkly bits today…birthday suit…

Louisbourg Day 2

A few discoveries today and a lot of questions still to be answered.  The longer I delve into the bits and pieces the more I want to know.  I found part of an etched inscription  today.  I’m feeling more and more like a code breaker.  I used to love criptoquotes as a kid.  I guess those interests that you develop as a kid, turn into your passions when you are an adult.

Visited Kennington Cove…

Day one Louisbourg

It’s that time of year again.  My volunteer vacation at Louisbourg with Parks Canada Archeaology.  Today I was working in Collections, which happens to be one of my fav places.  Just think 1000’s of artifacts at your fingertips.  My project was wading through a mountain of glass trying to find pieces that were unique.  It’s like playing with a jigsaw puzzle.  Lots of fun for me.

Lunenburg Academy Day Two

Lots of learning today onsite.  Made some new discoveries on the genealogy front.  They still have lots of digging to do to find the anomalies present on the geophysical study, I plan on joining the crew in June for the next stage.  I’m excited already.  We all need something to look forward to.  This is my motivation for keeping a healthy mind, body, and spirit.

It’s a dirty job but somebody’s got to do it!

Fully exposed drain.

Lunenburg Academy site day one

We had a great day one at the Academy dig site.  It turned out to be good weather and everyone was super enthusiastic.  I learned loads in the Primer on the early years at Lunenburg and the early settlers.  Which is part of my heritage.  I toured through the old cemetery and found some of my ancestors’ grave markers.  It’s a strange feeling to see a 250 year old ancestors name, and their last resting place.

Morris East

Today I’m galavanting in Halifax. I started at The Loop yarn store and found some beautiful yarns. I wish I could share the feel of them. Soft and luxurious.
I’m sitting in the cemetery across from St Mary’s Basilica writing this post. I stopped in because I like the peacefulness of cemeteries and also because I had the feeling I may have some ancestors here. I actually do. I remember their names from my research. Samuel Rudolph died at 90 years of age in 1826. Imagine! His wives are buried beside him.
I found a restaurant on Morris St, Morris East that has gluten free pizza. The pizza was a fried egg and Avocado wood fired pizza. It was very good. I had a salted Caramel gluten free tart for dessert, which I’m recovering from at the moment. Oh my was it sweet goodness!! Take a look, do I not look content.

I want to knit those socks! This beautiful smocked sweater also has to be in my queue. It’s knit with Berroco, one of my fav yarns.

Dig Day Two

My second and last day was great. I wish I could stay longer but my job calls. We found some interesting artifacts today. Wood, copper, ceramics and a few mysteries. I’ll have to wait until the analysis happens before I can find out the whole story. With every season there always arises a new question, it keeps you going until the next digging season comes. Here are some photos.
